The Four Categories of People According to Their Heart: The Parable of the Sower

Matt 13:3-9
3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. 8 But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” NKJV

18 “Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. 22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. 23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
NKJV
It shows to say that every word one speaks to us is a seed and the type of land it is sown into, is the state of the heart. Whether good or bad word it is still a seed. This parable is particularly talking of the word of God as seed.
the point is that one is in one of this categories if you are honest to yourself. There are only two people who really know who you are. You and your creator. The ground which the sower sowed is the heart of man. How the heart received the word is the state of receptiveness of the heart to the word.
The first one doesn’t even understand what the word is. When he hears it, he doesn’t even want to hear another word. In fact, it may even annoy him. According to the word, this is the one who received seed by the wayside. The second category of person, he actually does receive the word sooner or later persecutions and tribulation arises and because he doesn’t have much depth in the word, he falls. He thus blames God for his predicament. He could even fall away from the truth at this point or better still use this to learn from the situations and become stronger. I will go back to that later. The third person, he knows the word, but he didn’t commit himself fully to it. when you want the word to work in you, you have to surrender your heart totally to it. it is not half-half. You are either in, or out. God doesn’t tolerate Luke warmness. Thus he doesn’t flourish because the world and the word cannot go hand in hand. You must give in to one. the fourth one, hears the word, receives it in his heart and bears more fruit. The point is at at a certain time in our lives, we have either being the first, second, third before even getting to the fourth if you are there already. The fourth person really has got to purge himself of the cares of this world and  trust God in trials and tribulations
The third category of person I said I would go back to. Let’s take for example peter. When Jesus was arrested, Jesus told him that he would deny him three times before the cock crowed of which he denied. He did deny Jesus in fear. Mark 14:66-72; Luke 22:54-62; John 18:15-18,25-27) He stumbled at that time and thank God he got back on his feet and today he is one of the pillars of the gospel of Christ. The point is know which one you are and find yourself today in Christ.
It shows to say that every word one speaks to us is a seed and the type of land it is sown into, is the state of the heart. Whether good or bad word it is still a seed. This parable is particularly talking of the word of God as seed.
